Curriculum

The aim of our curriculum is to guide students to become self-motivated learners, who are academically strong and able to foster their own ability to think comprehensively and clearly. They will have a problem-solving attitude.

The subjects taught in the school are:

Right from the beginning, students learn the art of Recitation of the Quraan. They also memorize different surahs, learn ahadith and du‘as.

Arabic is taught in a simple, effective manner. As the language of the Quraan and Hadith, it holds great importance in the academic framework. Students are trained to communicate in the Arabic language.

As an English medium school, the use of English is emphasized throughout the school. Students are trained to communicate fluently and effectively in English. During the dynamic English lessons all areas are covered; including reading, writing, language activity, listening and speaking.
As a language, Bangla is highly valued at our school (for Bangladeshi passport holders only). It is taught with the same zeal and emphasis as English and Arabic, taking care of the proper dialect.
Students are taught concepts of Mathematics which are reinforced through practical activities. Our methodology provides a platform for students to become independent to utilize their mathematical skills. This approach helps to form a strong foundation to build upon in the coming academic years.
Our school has a thematic approach to the way of teaching Islamic Studies, where a concept is reinforced in all aspects of teaching. Through this process, students learn in an engaging manner. This helps to increase their knowledge, enrich their faith and to translate into action. A separate department is dedicated to the development of the Islamic Curriculum.
The subject of science is taught in such a way that students are made to realize and appreciate the greatness of Allah and His creations; the Creator and the created. They are motivated to understand the application of scientific concepts through our exceptional resources like models, slides, documentaries, animations, diagrams and science projects. Exhibitions and competitions held in the school are effective means to nurture their scientific inquiry. Students are encouraged to experiment, make discoveries and devise formulae on their own.
GK is developed by overall activities in and out of the school and not by any particular GK Book. By ‘General’ we really mean general and not just some data. We present information with fun and keep in mind our Islamic tradition and culture. We hold Inter-class Quiz Competitions and prepare them for Inter-School and National level competitions. Our approach to different subjects is such that the students become inquisitive of different issues of environment, life and current situation of human rights in the world today.
In the traditions of Ibn Hazm and Al-Idrisi, students develop an understanding of the world through this subject in which they learn about the earth, environment, other cultures, their economy and politics. For example, they get introduced to the chapter of Mountain through the Surah Naba (Chapter 78) where Allah says, “Have We not made the earth as habitable? And the mountains as pegs?”(Ayaat 7 and 8). Emphasis is given to make responsible and active citizens of the world.
Although we have traditions of the greats like Ibn Khaldun, Ibn Batuta and Al-Biruni, the current lack of research in historical sciences in the Muslim world demands that history is taught seriously so that truth is known. Through History, students derive important lessons from the past and benefit from a focused study of Muslim Heroes. They get to know in-depth about the successful expeditions like that of Rome, Egypt, Persia, Jerusalem, Istanbul, Hindustan, Khyber, Syria, Baghdad by the greats like Umar Faruq, Khalid bin Waleed, Tariq bin Ziad, Mahmud of Ghazni, etc.
Expressive Arts is a combined subject involving dramatic skills for stage performances, delivering speeches amongst small groups and before the morning assembly, debate competitions and building on existing skills and talents, thereby developing stage presence and self-confidence. Through Arts and Craft, the mind expands, broadens his/her horizons to be creative and help them refine their gross and fine motor skills. Students use this time to analyze, criticize and produce original pieces of art. Their artworks and drawings are displayed in the class and school gallery, staircases and walls to boost their confidence.
Health and Fitness are ensured by providing the students training in sports such as Drill, Martial Arts, Badminton, Table Tennis, Racing etc. All students partake in daily and weekly physical activities.
Assessment and grading

The academic progress of the students is systematically monitored by teachers and the Section Head through close observation as well as through the assessments, projects and examination. Generally, midyear exams take place in December and end-of-year exams take place in June. The grading and assessment system is made comprehensible for the students and parents to reflect upon their progress and set future targets.

At the end of Grade V, students are assessed via the Cambridge Primary Checkpoint (CPC) or Edexcel International Primary and Lower Secondary Certificate (PLSC), as IISD primary curriculum is the best combination of Cambridge International Primary Programme and Edexcel International Primary Curriculum.

The tests are marked by Cambridge International Examinations or Edexcel and provide an external international benchmark for your child’s performance.

CPC/PLSC can help your child by:

  • allowing teachers to assess their learning as they progress
  • giving your child a solid foundation for lifelong learning
  • providing an international standard of achievement
  • allowing you to track your child’s progress and identify barriers to learning
  • developing their skills so that they are innovative, confident and engaged
  • preparing them for Lower Secondary Checkpoint/International GCSEs
  • giving them a love of learning that will stay with them through school, university and beyond.
