The Secondary Section currently comprises of grades V-X, with segregation in class for boys and girls.

Key Features

We provide such an Islamic environment and integrate our curriculum with Islamic teachings so that our students realize the main source of knowledge — Allah. The lessons of the biography of the Prophet Muhammad g and the Sahabah help them admire the golden age of Muslim Civilization and internalize the efforts needed to bring about a similar change in our society. The efforts of our program are to mold our students into responsible Muslims who will play leadership roles in the progress of the earth in the light of Islamic teaching and guidance.

“In every subject, Islamic integration is ensured along with quality education. Training is given so that students keep in mind that all fields of knowledge be it language, mathematics, social science or research, convey the signs of Allah for the people who understand.”

Curriculum

Our students are given activity-based learning that increases their level of thought, understanding, creativity, and confidence.
The subjects offered in pre-IGCSE/O’ levels stream are given below with a brief of the content taught.

This specialized subject is taught from grade-VI in which the students derive root words and learn the translation and in-depth explanation of the verses of the Quraan. Spread over 5 years, students will learn complete word-word translation and Tafseer of the Quraan in this subject. The purpose is to have a thorough and in-depth understanding of Quraan in our future da’ees of Islam so that it is absorbed in their hearts and reflected in their actions.
This subject enables the students to recite the Quraan accurately. Recitation of the Quraan is the most important element of school assemblies, in-house and extra-curricular events. The annual Qiraat Competition motivates our students to strive to beautify the recitation of verses with skill and fluency.
Arabic is taught from the beginner level followed by an advanced level of speaking, reading, and writing. Students practice their language skills through role-plays, library lessons, assembly presentations, debates and classroom discussions. Knowledge of the Arabic language helps the students to understand Quraan and Hadith deeply.
This is a separate department dedicated to the development of the Islamic Curriculum. We have a thematic approach to the teaching of Islamic studies, where a concept is reinforced in all aspects of teaching. Through this process, students learn in an engaging manner, at the same time helping to increase their knowledge. This enriches their faith to implement into immediate action.
When teaching the English language we focus on listening, reading, writing, and speaking. We believe that listening has a very important role in language learning. Students are exposed to the exercise of developing content for news, magazines, brochures, documentaries, poems, composition, etc.

Reading skill is not limited to comprehension only. By developing these skills, the love of reading & gaining knowledge through books is instilled. Reading programs are conducted to improve reading quality. Our library houses a wide range of carefully selected books which are appropriate for different age groups.

The Seerah of the Prophet Muhammad is taught through the famous biography ‘The Sealed Nectar’ (ArRahikulMakhtoom), as part of literature. By this, the students get to study the sophisticated non-fiction genre, simultaneously get to critically examine the lineage, life, personality character of Prophet Muhammad g, and refer to him as the exemplary role model for the Muslim Ummah.

Bangla is taught with care, zeal, and zest through creative activities. Speeches, debates, interviews, report writing, and composition are practiced in Bangla. Assembly presentations and cultural activities are conducted. A theme of the month is celebrated through different activities.
Mathematics is taught with reference problem-solving in daily life. Subject teachers have an insight to the future requirements of higher classes and strive to make our students fit enough to be able to meet higher standards and reach broader horizons. Mathematics is Islamically integrated for its strands with skills of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and mensuration of our syllabus book. We believe that mathematics is a fundamental subject to understand science, arts, life, Quran and the sunnah.
Science is one of the most significant subjects of our curriculum. Our students enjoy conducting experiments in the science lab and trained by the subject experts to form a hypothesis and reach the conclusions.

At Insight International School, Dhaka (IISD), there is a vast opportunity to display and present a vast range of Science projects to a broad audience of students, teachers, parents, and visitors. All their research work is Islamically integrated, thus training our students to not just learn science with a deeper purpose, but to transfer their research as Da‘ees to the rest of the world, using such opportunities to strike upon intellectual thinking and discovering ways to spread the word of Allah.

Geography is taught through standardized syllabus books and references to the library and the internet. Our students present their research work on PowerPoint and are trained to reproduce knowledge about the complex geological structure of the Earth. They make models on each chapter on themes like volcano, nature, pollution, rocks, forests, demography etc.

We think history is one of the most important general subjects for overall development. The blessed personalities of the Muslim Ummah, the Sahaba, Tabe‘yeen, Tabe‘-tabe‘yeen, and those who devoted their lives to please the Lord are presented as the best role models for the students. Their character, traits, and wonderful personalities motivate the students to dedicate themselves to the path of Islam for the sake of Allah like those predecessor heroes.

Arts is a part of creative expression which is so far practiced up to Grade V. Our faculty keeps all internal and external art competitions open to rest of the students also to give equal opportunity to the artistically inclined and skillfully creative minds. The subject is assessed through the exhibition of different art-related projects made by students under the guidance of the art teacher.

Health and Fitness are of paramount importance to lead a successful life. This is ensured by training in sports like football, martial Arts, Badminton, Table Tennis, and Racing, wrestling, etc. All students take part in regular physical activities. Practice sessions are notified from time to time for the soccer team, march past team, table tennis team.

Computer Studies is practiced, rather than taught. It is created through the syllabus book for each grade. The well-equipped computer lab contains all the materials required for the students to get hands-on experience. Students are trained to use various programs, design graphics, use PowerPoint and surf the internet according to an age-appropriate syllabus.
Assessment and grading

The academic progress of the students is systematically monitored by teachers and section heads through close observation as well as through ongoing assessment of classwork, quizzes, tests, oral assessments, projects, and examination. Midyear (Half-yearly) exams take place in December and end-of-year exams take place in May or June. The grading and assessment system is made comprehensible for the students and parents to reflect upon their progress and set life targets.

After Grade VIII, they are exposed to the Cambridge Lower Secondary Checkpoint (CLSC) or Edexcel International Primary and Lower Secondary Certificate (PLSC). The tests are marked by Cambridge International Examinations or Edexcel and provide an external international benchmark for your child’s performance. And, the tests are held to test each student’s strengths and weaknesses, as a diagnostic guide to prepare for the ‘O’ Level examinations, and to act as a basis for an action or remedial plan when necessary.

CLSC/ PLSC can help your child by:

  • allowing teachers to assess their learning as they progress
  • giving your child a solid foundation for lifelong learning
  • providing an international standard of achievement
  • allowing you to track your child’s progress and identify barriers to learning
  • developing their skills so that they are innovative, confident and engaged
  • preparing them for International GCSEs
  • giving them a love of learning that will stay with them through school, university and beyond.

After Grade X, they appear for the Cambridge IGCSE or O (Ordinary) Level or Edexcel International GCSE (General Certificate of Secondary Education) and after GradeXII, they appear for the Cambridge/Edexcel A (Advanced) Level examinations.
